Jack Hietpas, PhD
Jack Hietpas is an assistant professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in NYC where he teaches classes in the Forensic Science Program. Jack has worked for a variety of organizations including Microtrace, NIST, FBI, and Penn State University. He specializes in the microscopy and microanalysis of materials; which includes hairs, fibers, glass, soil, minerals, wood, general unknowns, and explosives. Jack has received National Institute of Justice funding for projects that focus on the microscopy and microanalysis of forensically relevant materials. He once hated microscopy, but after he was properly introduced to it, he became a die-hard microscopist. He personally owns approximately 10 microscopes that he acquired from online sources and from colleagues. Jack thinks the book entitled “Evenings with the Microscope” encompasses the spirit of the perfect way to relax at the end of the day.
